They were so far behind a lot of other plants, I thought they might not have made it but all six are intact.&#xA;&#xA;!--more--&#xA;&#xA;In a mulched bed next to some logs, two long stems leaning different directions, covered in healthy looking leaves.&#xA;&#xA;Some of them sprouted a lot of leaves on their original stems. But some of them are budding little or not at all on the original stem, instead putting all the growth into a clump of new leaves at the bottom.&#xA;&#xA;In a mulched bed, some healthy looking leaves sprout from the base of a long stem that has few buds further up.&#xA;&#xA;In a mulched bed with a log behind it, some healthy looking leaves sprout from the base of a long stem..&#xA;&#xA;The grasses had just about suffocated them, but were easy to uproot in the mulch. <p>The American beautyberry plants survived the winter! They were so far behind a lot of other plants, I thought they might not have made it but all six are intact.</p>
